Newcastle vs Liverpool Odds

The Reds are a -102 moneyline favorite for this encounter, while Newcastle returns as a +240 underdog at most soccer sportsbooks. A draw is priced at +290.

As for head-to-head, Liverpool has tasted defeat just once in their last 18 meetings with Newcastle across all competitions. However, that loss was in their most recent clash last season in the Carabao Cup. As for league action, they played to a thrilling 3-3 draw on this same ground last December before the Reds ran out 2-0 winners at Anfield in February.

Newcastle vs Liverpool Analysis

The Magpies had a very respectable 2024-25 campaign, finishing in fifth place in the table. The goal will be to make a return to the Champions League in 2025-26, but the drama surrounding the club right now isn’t helping. Alexander Isak is forcing his way out and although Newcastle is adamant on keeping their talisman, he’s made it clear that leaving the club is his priority. Coincidentally enough, Liverpool are the frontrunners to lure him away from St. James’ Park.

Isak’s absence was certainly felt on matchday one. Eddie Howe’s side struggled to create many opportunities in the final third against Villa, with just three shots on goal. They even played with an extra man for nearly 30 minutes after Ezri Konsa was handed a red card in the 66’. Yet, Newcastle couldn’t score. Without Isak leading the line, they need to find goals elsewhere. The likes of Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon, and Jacob Murphy will be relied upon.

Liverpool’s title defense got off to the best way possible, securing three points with an emphatic 4-2 win over the Cherries. While their backline showed vulnerability at times as Antoine Semenyo bagged two wonderful goals, Arne Slot’s attack showcased their ability. Huge Ekitike opened his Premier League account on his debut as he scored the first of four, while Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, and Mo Salah also hit the back of the net.

It was an impressive summer window for the Reds, who signed Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Florian Wirtz. All three were superstars in the Bundesliga last term. It will of course take time for these new players to adapt, but Liverpool did a nice job of replacing the players they lost. Slot’s men are unbeaten in their last 17 Premier League meetings with Newcastle, winning 12 of those matches.

Newcastle vs Liverpool Picks

While the Reds may have suffered a defeat to the Magpies in the League Cup earlier in the year, their success against them in league play is hard to ignore. Liverpool should have no issues securing three points here, with Newcastle’s struggles up top continuing.
