Premier League matchday two begins on Friday, August 22, with an intriguing affair between West Ham and Chelsea at the London Stadium. The kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET. The Hammers had a tough start to the campaign last weekend, getting beaten by newly-promoted Sunderland. As for the Blues, they settled for a lone point at Stamford Bridge against the reigning FA Cup champions, Crystal Palace. Both clubs will be hungry to find a positive result here. West Ham vs Chelsea Odds

Sportsbooks have Chelsea as a -145 favorite for Friday’s clash. West Ham returns as a +360 home underdog. A draw is priced at +300. The Over has cashed in four straight meetings, hence the -150 odds.

The Blues have won three straight against the Hammers, conceding just once during that span while bagging 10 goals.

West Ham vs Chelsea Analysis

The 2024-25 campaign was a rough one for West Ham, finishing in 14th place in the table. Unfortunately, they couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start on matchday one. Sunderland put a beatdown on the Hammers, running out 3-0 winners at the Stadium of Light. One of the top flight’s newest sides bagged all three goals after the 60th minute. West Ham had 63% of the ball but failed to create any clear-cut opportunities.

The summer window was an active one for the London outfit, losing Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham, while Michail Antonio left the club. As for new signings, Jean-Clair Todibo joined from Nice, and Callum Wilson came over as a free agent after his Newcastle contract expired. The leading man in the final third is Jarrod Bowen, who scored 13 times and assisted eight last term. The Hammers also need former Dortmund man Niclas Fullkrug to produce the goods up top if they’re going to have any shot at finishing in the top half.

The Blues showed real optimism last season as they clinched a spot in the Champions League and then followed that up with a brilliant performance at the Club World Cup, beating PSG in the final. A plethora of signings occurred this summer, bringing in the likes of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Estevao, and a couple more are reportedly on the way in Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho. But, despite adding firepower in the final third in the transfer window, they were toothless on matchday one.

Chelsea hardly troubled Palace keeper Dean Henderson at all throughout 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge, registering 19 shots, but just three found the target. Scoring goals has been an issue for this club for years and that problem was evident in the season opener. Cole Palmer was far from his best as well and truly didn’t have the ball nearly enough. Failing to snatch three points at home always hurts, but it’s just one match, and the Blues will carry confidence into Friday’s match given their recent track record versus West Ham.

West Ham vs Chelsea Picks

The Blues showed their quality in the Club World Cup. This club is a well-oiled machine, and I do believe you’ll see them bounce back after a very average performance last Sunday. Take the Chelsea moneyline. They will grab a crucial three points in East London.
