Perhaps the most unprecedented of the NFL storylines going into the 2025 campaign is the rookie year of No. 2 overall pick Travis Hunter with the Jacksonville Jaguars. All signs point to Hunter at least starting out playing both wide receiver and cornerback. He will be the first true two-way player in the league in perhaps 50 years.

And that not only creates a very interesting thread to follow throughout the season, but also some completely unique and unprecedented NFL betting opportunities. Hunter could reasonably win either Offensive or Defensive Rookie of the Year—or both.

You can bet on him to win OROY… or you can bet him to win DROY… or you can bet on him to win at least one of the two… or you can bet on him to win both. We won’t be seeing NFL futures betting markets like this again, maybe ever in the NFL, so why not take advantage! Check out the odds and our predictions below!

Highlights

  • Travis Hunter has shorter odds to win OROY than to win DROY
  • Hunter is top three on the odds board for both awards
  • The Jags rookie has +375 odds to win EITHER award, a market that is the first of its kind

Travis Hunter: Offensive Rookie of the Year or Defensive Rookie of the Year

Travis Hunter checks in in third place on the odds board for 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year. Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty and Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward are tied atop the board with +275 odds, with Hunter sitting at +750.

On the defensive side, Hunter also sits in third on the odds board for Defensive Rookie of the Year. New York Giants edge rusher Abdul Carter is the big favorite on most betting apps at +250. Atlanta Falcons edge Jalon Walker is second with +750 odds, and Hunter and San Francisco 49ers edge Mykel Williams are tied in third with +900 odds.

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has been adamant about allowing Hunter to go full bore on both sides of the ball. And if mandatory minicamp was any indication, he means that, as Hunter took first-team reps on both sides of the ball during that OTAs period.

He’s going to start playing both ways, but if he decides to lean on one later in the season, we have a feeling it might be cornerback. He can make more money playing wide receiver. But he’s always been a better corner than wideout as far as we’re concerned. And the Jags are stronger at wideout than corner without Hunter.

Hunter could also have a much more outsized impact on offense. He could play 20 offensive snaps and get 10 touches, whereas to have a real impact on defense he needs to be out there for most of the game. We also think Pete Carroll is going to feed Jeanty so gluttonously that he’ll be tough to beat on the OROY side. If he’s gonna win just one of these Rookie of the Year awards, we’re leaning defense, even if the odds and the salary suggest offense.

Can Travis Hunter Win Either Rookie of the Year Award? Or Both?

But that’s the beauty of Travis Hunter futures. You don’t have to choose which one you think Hunter is most likely to win. You can bet on him to simply win one or the other. Or even both.

It’s hard to see Hunter playing well enough and overcoming a bit of an anti-Colorado agenda in the media to win both of these awards. But if he plays pretty well, not even great, on both sides of the ball, the voters will probably feel like he deserves something.

There’s no way we’re touching his +6,000 odds to win both of these Rookie of the Year awards. But his +375 odds to win one or the other are more than intriguing. He’s doing something that’s never been done before, and that’s likely to be rewarded like it was with the Heisman Trophy last year in the NCAA.

We will probably never get the chance to bet on another player to win either Offensive or Defensive Rookie of the Year in the same year. So why not take a shot, especially considering the solid value on those +375 odds.
