It’s box office tennis on Wednesday, July 9 in the 2025 Wimbledon quarterfinals as world No. 1 Jannik Sinner faces American superstar Ben Shelton. The first serve is scheduled for 8:15 AM ET. Sinner got extremely lucky in the Round of 16, only winning because Grigor Dimitrov had to retire due to injury. Dimitrov was two sets up when he called it quits. As for Shelton, he took down Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the last round in a four-set battle. Below, we’ll dive into the Jannik Sinner vs Ben Shelton betting picks.

Jannik Sinner vs Ben Shelton Odds

PlayerOdds
Jannik Sinner-295
Ben Shelton+230

Sinner is a heavy -295 favorite for the quarterfinal at tennis betting sites. Shelton returns as a +230 underdog to advance to the semifinals.

These two have met six times, but it’s been all Sinner. He’s won five of those matches. Most recently, the Italian took down Shelton in the Aussie Open semifinals in January en route to the title. Shelton certainly has something to prove here.

Jannik Sinner vs Ben Shelton Analysis

Sinner’s rise to one of the best in the sport over the last year has been clear. He was first ranked No. 1 in the world last June and has managed to hold onto that ranking. The youngster has looked solid in this event outside of the Dimitrov match. In fact, he won his first three matches in straight sets before dropping back-to-back sets to the Bulgarian. Sinner’s record now sits at 23-3 on the season, with his lone trophy coming in Melbourne. Sinner actually suffered an injury scare in the fourth-round clash with Dimitrov, falling on his right elbow. He’s since had an MRI on it, but the ailment isn’t expected to affect his availability for Wednesday’s match.

Wimbledon is one of the Majors that Sinner has yet to win, with his best finish coming in 2023, progressing to the semifinals. Sinner was just in the French Open final a month ago against his rival and arguably the biggest threat to him taking over the tennis world, Carlos Alcaraz. Both players are on opposite sides of the draw, so a rematch in the England showpiece is possible. But Novak Djokovic will also have something to say about that.

Shelton is easily one of the most confident players on the tour. He plays with a sense of swagger and grit that you simply don’t see every day. Currently ranked No. 10 in the world, Shelton won his first three matches at Wimbledon before dropping a set to Sonego in the Round of 16. But he still prevailed and continues to thrive with his first serve. One could argue Shelton’s path to the quarters has been one of the toughest, having also had to get past a solid player in Martin Fucsovics. Sonego is no pushover, either.

The 22-year-old doesn’t have the best record so far in 2025, though. He’s just 23-14 and has yet to win a title. But of course, he did make the semis in Australia and also progressed to the Round of 16 at the French Open, only to lose to Alcaraz in a highly entertaining four-set match. Shelton will be looking to finally turn the tables on Sinner, who may not be at 100% after sustaining the elbow injury.

Jannik Sinner vs Ben Shelton Picks

These are two uber-talented players who are extremely athletic. Shelton isn’t going to go down without a fight, and he may be able to push this one to five sets given Sinner’s health situation. I’ll take this one to go the distance, with the Italian ultimately advancing.
