Usually when MMA fans see that it’s a Fight Night weekend for the UFC they prepare to be underwhelmed. But we don’t think that will be the case on Saturday, May 30 in Macau, China. The UFC is putting on a surprisingly impressive main card for UFC Fight Night 277.

The main event will feature a top 10 matchup in the bantamweight division, but there are some massive men going toe-to-toe before that tiny tilt. In the co-main, knockout artist Mingyang Zhang looks to join the top 15 in the light heavyweight division with a matchup against No. 15 Alonzo Menifield.

Before that, No. 3 heavyweight contender Sergei Pavlovich will dance with No. 15 Tallison Teixeira. In another intriguing battle at 135 pounds, Kai Asakura will take on Cameron Smotherman. We’ve got you covered with UFC betting odds and our best bets from the main card as well as our UFC Macau parlay!

Highlights

  • Mingyang Zhang has not had a fight go the distance in his last 20 bouts
  • 15 of Sergei Pavlovich’s 20 career wins have come by KO/TKO
  • Cameron Smotherman has not been finished in 3 years

Mingyang Zhang vs. No. 15 Alonzo Menifield Light Heavyweight Bout Betting Odds

Mingyang Zhang-250-3.5 (-230)O1.5 (+140)+900-150+1,000Yes (+375)
Alonzo Menifield+205+3.5 (+175)U1.5 (-180)+700+475+900No (-550)

Mingyang Zhang (19-7) was supposed to launch a superstar career the last time the UFC came to China. But he suffered a massive upset loss to the incomparable Johnny Walker. It happens. He gets a better shot to jump into the top 15 this time around against Alonzo Menifield (17-6-1), who has lost three of his last five.

Zhang has had 20 straight fights end before the final bell, a run going back to 2017. Before getting finished by Walker last summer, Zhang had won all four of his UFC fights by KO/TKO in the first round. We’re not sure he’ll get it in the first round here, but he’ll get it. Menifield is 10 years older, a less capable striker, and has been knocked out six times in his career.

Best Bet: Mingyang Zhang to Win via KO/TKO/DQ (-150)

No. 3 Sergei Pavlovich vs. No. 15 Tallison Teixeira Heavyweight Bout Betting Odds

FighterMoneylineSpreadRoundsWin by DecisionWin by KO/TKO/DQWin by SubmissionGo the Distance
Sergei Pavlovich-600-3.5 (-450)O1.5 (+140)+500-260+1,650Yes (+400)
Tallison Teixeira+450+3.5 (+320)U1.5 (-180)+1,650+750+1,500No (-600)

This should be a proper heavyweight scrap. Short, and lots of bombs. Sergei Pavlovich (20-3) has bounced back nicely after losing his title shot a couple of years ago, winning his last two straight. Meanwhile, Tallison Teixeira (9-1), once a mysterious and terrifying prospect, is now one of the most disappointing recent additions to the UFC lineup.

Teixeira was rocked by Derrick Lewis two fights ago, and Teixeira fought like he didn’t want to get knocked out again in his god-awful decision win over Tai Tuivasa in his most recent fight. Pavlovich has earned 15 of his 20 MMA wins by knocking the other guy’s block off, and the Russian will do it again here.

Best Bet: Sergei Pavlovich to Win via KO/TKO/DQ (-260)

Kai Asakura vs. Cameron Smotherman Bantamweight Bout Betting Odds

FighterMoneylineSpreadRoundsWin by DecisionWin by KO/TKO/DQWin by SubmissionGo the Distance
Kai Asakura-300-3.5 (-190)O2.5 (+110)+235+125+1,000Yes (+145)
Cameron Smotherman+240+3.5 (+150)U2.5 (-140)+625+575+1,500No (-185)

Speaking of underwhelming recent additions to the UFC, how about Kai Asakura (21-6)? The Japanese scrapper arrived with much fanfare, but has been submitted in his first two UFC fights. However, those fights were against top talent at 125 pounds.

Asakura is back at 135 (where he was a Rizin champion) for this one and against the much less heralded Cameron Smotherman (12-6), who only has three UFC bouts on his own resume. This seems like a get-right situation for Asakura, though a more measured approach after back-to-back losses might be expected.

Best Bet: Kai Asakura to Win via Decision (+235)
