Mets vs Phillies Odds

The Phillies are a -132 moneyline favorite at MLB betting sites. The Mets come back at +104 odds. The total is set at 9.5 runs, and the Under has cashed in three of the last four.

Philadelphia has also won four of the previous five meetings with New York this season.

Mets vs Phillies Analysis

With the second half officially underway as of Thursday, the struggling Mets will be looking to pull off the unthinkable and miraculously make a playoff run. But, that will be easier said than done. New York is 16 games out of first place in the National League East and another 12 games out in the NL Wild Card race. Needless to say, it’s going to be an uphill battle for this ball club.

The Mets finished the first half on a three-game losing skid, getting swept by the Boston Red Sox at home. Thursday marks the beginning of a six-game road trip, and it won’t get any easier after visiting Philly as they face the Milwaukee Brewers next. Christian Scott gets the ball in the opener here, and he’s actually been a bright spot. The right-hander owns a 3.17 ERA across 12 starts, striking out 65 in 54 innings of work while walking 26. Scott has a solid outing last time out on July 8, tossing five scoreless frames against the Kansas City Royals.

After a slow start that saw them fire manager Rob Thomson, the Phillies have found their footing again and look like a team that can contend in the National League. Philadelphia is right on the Atlanta Braves’ heels in the division, only sitting two games back. Meanwhile, in the Wild Card, the Phillies are in second, but they need to keep their foot on the gas pedal as many teams are vying for those three spots.

While the Phils are just 5-5 in their last 10 contests, they won two straight prior to the All-Star break. Philadelphia hasn’t revealed who will start Thursday’s game, but it feels likely it will be either Jesus Luzardo or Aaron Nola. Luzardo tossed an inning in Tuesday’s ASG, so the Phils could look to hold him out a bit longer here. Nola pitched on July 10, making him the logical option here. Nola has struggled this season, posting a 5.75 ERA. But he’s calmed down lately, allowing just five earned runs over his last two appearances.

Mets vs Phillies Picks

The Phillies come into this contest with momentum, and regardless of who takes the hill for them, the hosts look like the best pick here given the way they’re swinging the bats, and the recent success against New York. But, I do not expect it to be a high-scoring affair, as Scott has held his own lately.
