Napoli welcome Arsenal to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET for Matchday 1 of the Champions League league phase. The Gunners are a clear -122 road moneyline favorite at soccer betting sites. Napoli is priced at +350 on home soil, while a draw is priced at +270 odds.
These two sides have met four times in Europe – twice in the Champions League, and twice in Europa. Arsenal holds the 3-0-1 edge. However, the last time the Gunners and Napoli went to battle was seven years ago.
Napoli vs Arsenal Analysis
Napoli’s start to the 2026-27 Serie A campaign has been concerning, with two losses in their first three games. After a matchday one victory, Max Allegri’s men have dropped back-to-back matches to Como and Inter Milan. The Blues were well on their way to three points against Inter over the weekend before conceding twice late, with Lautaro Martinez sinking the visitors in injury time.
Needless to say, Napoli’s form is far from their best ahead of a highly difficult encounter with Arsenal, last season’s Champions League finalists and the Premier League title-holders. Napoli’s league-phase schedule isn't that difficult, with a clash against Manchester City as their other tough game. But the Italians have lost three straight to English opponents, and they’re also winless in their previous three Champions League games overall.
The Gunners fell just short of being crowned the champions of Europe last term, but there’s no doubting it was an exhilarating campaign for Mikel Arteta’s side. They haven’t missed a beat so far in the Premier League, securing all wins, with just one goal conceded. That came on Sunday against Chelsea, who took an early lead at the Emirates thanks to Morgan Rogers before Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard bagged two unanswered goals.
Arsenal are flying high, and their camaraderie on both ends of the pitch is phenomenal. After the Blues’ goal, the visitors had zero luck breaking through the Gunners’ high line, and that solidity at the back – and in the middle of the pitch – will cause a fit for Napoli’s attack on Wednesday. UEFA certainly handed Arsenal a tougher schedule than most, with matchups against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayern Munich ahead in the league phase. But none of those opponents will scare Arsenal after their appearance in the final earlier this year.
Napoli vs Arsenal Injury News
Napoli will be without Scott McTominay for Wednesday’s Champions League clash due to a heart issue, while Giovane is recovering from hernia surgery and Luca Marianucci remains sidelined with a high-grade MCL injury. Alessandro Buongiorno also remains unavailable after knee surgery this summer.
Arsenal will be without William Saliba due to a back injury, while Cristhian Mosquera and Jurrien Timber are both doubtful, with Timber dealing with a groin problem.
Napoli vs Arsenal Picks
Napoli has hit a really poor spell, and Arsenal is looking practically flawless. I have zero doubts they will produce the goods on Wednesday, despite minimal rest, and I also like the visitors’ stout backline to keep a clean sheet.
