Twins vs Rockies Analysis
The Twins are having a disappointing season, sitting in third place in the American League Central with a 38-44 record. While they’re still very much in the playoff race due to how early it is and just how wide open the division is, consistency has been an issue – especially on the mound. In fact, Minny’s offense is eighth in runs scored with an average of 4.8 per game. But when it comes to pitching, the Twins are 28th in team ERA, posting a 4.82 ERA.
They will be hoping Bradley can give them a chance on Friday. He’s compiled a 4.11 ERA this season, and he has a 5.33 FIP over his last two starts while allowing over 2.00 HR/9. Bradley has had real trouble with the long ball lately, giving up six across his previous three outings. Thankfully, Colorado isn’t exactly an elite power-hitting team, ranking 19th in home runs. But his 45.5% hard hit rate over the last two weeks isn’t a good sign against a respectable offense.
The Rockies may be in the gutter of the NL West again, but, like Minnesota, pitching has been their issue. Colorado’s offense is top-10 in the big leagues in numerous categories, and they’ve actually found a lot of consistency. But, on the hill, the Rockies are dead last in the MLB with a horrendous 5.48 ERA and league-worst 1.50 WHIP. The HR has also been a major problem, allowing 109. While it doesn’t help that Colorado plays at Coors Field, they’re still making far too many mistakes in the strike zone.
Sugano has struggled lately, sporting a 5.63 xERA over his last five starts. However, one start where he allowed eight runs has inflated the numbers. Outside of that outing, he allowed three earned runs or fewer in his six other outings since May 16. Sugano is coming off one of his best starts of the year, holding the Pittsburgh Pirates to one earned run across six strong innings.
Twins vs Rockies Picks
We’re looking at two starters who are far from consistent, and neither bullpen is exactly reliable, either. Instead of a winner here, I’m eyeing the Over in runs. Huge value with two of the worst pitching staffs in the show.
