We’re heading into the dog days of the 2025 MLB season and the playoff race will begin to heat up over the next month. Two ball clubs in the American League East took advantage of the recent trade deadline in the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees, who both strengthened their rosters in the pursuit of the postseason. However, the Jays have separated themselves from the pack in the AL East futures amid their hot streak and the Yanks’ struggles without the injured Aaron Judge.

Blue Jays-190

Red Sox+500

Orioles+40000

The Jays are now sitting as a -190 favorite to win the toughest division in baseball. Despite their busy trade deadline, the Bronx Bombers sit behind them at +275 at most MLB betting sites. The Red Sox meanwhile have +500 odds.

Blue Jays (-190)

The Jays have cooled off in the last week but overall, they’ve been absolutely flourishing. Toronto has one of the best records in baseball and remains at the top of the division, three games above the Red Sox and 4.5 ahead of the Yankees. John Schneider’s group brought in former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber to strengthen their rotation at the deadline, while the Blue Jays also traded for Seranthony Dominguez, Ty France, and stud reliever Louis Varland. Toronto addressed almost all of their needs and now it’s time to stay consistent. The Jays have struggled to have any playoff success for nearly a decade now, but something feels different this time around. The Jays are a very good ball club on both sides of the ball and although their lead is just 3.5 games in first, it’s their division to lose.

Yankees (+275)

Judge is set to return to the lineup this week, but the Yankees weren’t exactly playing great without him. After taking three of four from the Tampa Bay Rays, New York just got swept by the Miami Marlins at home. That was after bringing in numerous players at the deadline. No other team was as active as the Bronx Bombers, trading for the likes of Ryan McMahon, Jose Caballero, David Bednar, and others. The Yanks prioritized pitching while adding two infielders. The reliever additions struggled in their first game post-trade, with three of them allowing nine runs combined. New York has all the pieces for another World Series run, but they face an uphill battle to win the AL East, now sitting in third with a 60-52 record. The Red Sox and Jays remain in sight.

Red Sox (+500)

When the Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in June, fans were livid and felt like the organization was throwing in the towel on the season. But, Boston has remained competitive. Whether it’s winning the division or securing an AL Wild Card spot, the Red Sox do have a realistic chance of playing postseason baseball. Boston is 8-2 in their last 10 contests and added two key arms at the trade deadline – Dustin May and Steven Matz. Most importantly, they managed to hold onto Jarren Duran, who was involved in trade rumors. The Red Sox are hot and continue to push pressure on the Jays.

AL East Futures Picks

Obviously there’s still a lot of games left in the campaign and this is a very tight division. The sportsbooks clearly think the Blue Jays will ultimately take the division given their steep odds and I honestly believe the same. Toronto is going to finally capture another AL East title.
