Borussia Dortmund vs Inter Milan Analysis

It’s been a solid campaign overall for Dortmund, who are comfortably in second place in the Bundesliga with a 12-6-1 record. But, they still sit eight points behind first-place Bayern Munich, and face an uphill battle to challenge them for the title. As for the Champions League competition, BVB is in 16th with a 3-2-2 record, sitting in the final seeded play-off spot. Dortmund have bagged 19 goals while conceding 15.

A 26th-minute red card in London instantly diminished their chances of getting three points last week, and the opportunities were few and far between. The Black and Yellows had just six shots in total, with just one hitting the target. However, that was Dortmund’s lone defeat across their last nine games. They’ve been in solid form, and the hosts have notched three consecutive wins on home soil.

Inter is flying high at the top of Serie A with an impressive 17-1-4 record, collecting 52 points from 22 games. The Champions League finalists haven’t been as dominant in Europe, though, compiling a 4-0-3 record. A 3-1 home defeat to Arsenal was a gut-punch, as it was seen as a serious test to see just how strong this side is. The Gunners ran riot on the Nerrazzuri behind a brace from Gabriel Jesus.

However, Inter responded in fine fashion over the weekend, smashing Pisa 6-2 on Friday. Cristian Chivu’s side had a whopping 34 shots, with 14 finding the target. It was a clinical attacking display, but Dortmund is undoubtedly a step up in competition. Regardless of the result here, Inter will be in the play-off phase, with a berth in the Round of 16 on the line if they did win across two legs.

Borussia Dortmund vs Inter Milan Injury News

Dortmund will be without Daniel Svensson due to suspension following his red card against Tottenham, with Ramy Bensebaini a likely replacement at the back, while Niklas Süle and Marcel Sabitzer remain sidelined through injury. Aaron Anselmino has returned to Chelsea, and Julian Duranville has departed on loan to Basel, thinning options further. Inter also have concerns, as Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Denzel Dumfries are both out injured, though Chivu still has depth to lean on, with Nicolo Barella, Federico Dimarco, Marcus Thuram, and Manuel Akanji all expected to come back into the fold after being benched last time out.
