Club Brugge vs Atletico Madrid Odds

By no surprise, Atletico is a clear -114 favorite to win the first leg at soccer betting sportsbooks. Brugge returns at +309 odds. A draw is priced at +290. The O/U is set at three goals.

These two sides have met four times since 2018-19. They both notched a victory apiece, while the other two fixtures ended level.

Club Brugge vs Atletico Madrid Analysis

Club Brugge is having another respectable campaign domestically as one of the top sides in the Belgian Pro League, sitting just three points off the top with a 16-2-7 record. They’ve only tasted defeat once in their last six games across all competitions, and Brugge’s final game of the UCL group stages was a dominant 3-0 victory over Marseille.

Ivan Leko’s side compiled a 3-1-4 record in group play, bagging 15 goals and conceding 17 in eight matches. Brugge have outscored their opponents 7-1 across their two Champions League appearances, with the win over Marseille coming on home soil. Six different players have bagged two goals in Europe, including Hans Vanaken, Aleksandar Stankovic, and Carlos Forbs.

Atleti isn’t always the most exciting club to watch, but they typically find themselves in the top four in LaLiga, and in the latter stages of the Champions League. That’s once again in the case when it comes to the aforementioned, sitting in fourth in Spain with a 13-6-5 record, compiling 45 points from 24 games. When it comes to the UCL, it remains to be seen if they’ll make it through to the Round of 16, but it would be considered a serious failure if the Spanish outfit failed to progress.

Diego Simeone’s squad went 4-1-3 in the group stages, finishing in 14th place. They failed to win over their last two Champions League games, though, losing to Bodo/Glimt and grabbing a point against Galatasaray. Atletico just embarrassed Barcelona 4-0 in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals last week, but they quickly came back down to earth over the weekend, succumbing to a 3-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano. Needless to say, consistency is an issue.

Club Brugge vs Atletico Madrid Injury News

Club Brugge could be without Dani van den Heuvel and Lynnt Audoor, as both players are currently considered doubtful for the match. Pablo Barrios will miss out for Atlético Madrid after being ruled out with a thigh injury.

Club Brugge vs Atletico Madrid Picks

I expect this to be a cagey first leg in Bruge, and the hosts’ home form is a promising sign. However, as inconsistent as Atletico may be at times, I do believe they will play to a hard-fought draw, setting the stage for a tasty return leg next week in the Spanish capital.
