Blue Jays vs Phillies Odds

The Phillies are a -140 home favorite, while the Blue Jays are a +105 underdog at MLB betting sites.  These two met earlier this month, with Toronto winning two of three.

Blue Jays vs Phillies Analysis

While the Blue Jays didn’t get off to the greatest start in 2025, they’re really starting to figure it out over the last couple of weeks. Toronto is 8-2 in their last 10 games. In fact, they’ve won five series in a row against the Texas Rangers, Athletics, Phillies, Minnesota Twins, and the Cardinals. John Schneider’s group is in second place in the American League East, just four games behind the New York Yankees in first place.

The Jays hand Kevin Gausman the ball in the serie opener. He’s been a workhorse for this ball club over the last few years and ‘25 is no different. The right-hander is 5-4 with a 3.87 ERA in 13 starts, striking out 73 in 76.2 innings of work while walking just 16. Gausman has faced a lot of this Phils lineup, holding them to a .252 average across 131 at-bats. He’s struggled on the road however, with his ERA increasing to 4.35.

The Phillies are in quite the rut right now and it doesn’t help that Bryce Harper is currently on the IL. Philly is only 3-7 in their last 10 contests and hit rock bottom when they failed to beat the Pirates. But, Rob Thomson’s team responded in a three-game set against the Cubbies, taking two of three. The bats came alive a bit, especially in the finale on Wednesday as the Phillies scored seven runs and banged out 10 hits. It was a step in the right direction. Jesus Luzardo also struck out 10 on the hill.

Philadelphia will be hopeful on Friday as Ranger Suarez takes the bump. The lefty has been brilliant so far, compiling a 2.70 ERA and 4-1 record in seven starts. He’s struck out 38 in just 43.1 innings while issuing a mere 11 free passes. He’s barely faced the Blue Jays before. Toronto actually swings it very well against left-handers, batting .273 as a lineup. They’re in good shape lately, so Suarez will have his work cut out for him in the opener.

Blue Jays vs Phillies Picks

Historically, Gausman hasn’t done well against the Phillies with a career 4.24 ERA. They’re starting to show promise again and playing at home is a positive, with Philadelphia going 21-13 at Citizens Bank Park. Suarez is one of their top guys and I think he’ll keep him in this one while the offense will do some damage off Gausman, who isn’t great away from home.
