National League West action is in full swing on Monday, May 19, when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Arizona Diamondbacks for the series opener of a three-game set. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:10 PM ET at Dodger Stadium. By no surprise, the defending champs sit at the top of the division, but they just surprisingly suffered a three-game sweep against the Los Angeles Angels. As for the D-Backs, they’re just above .500 and won the rubber match against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. Below, find the Diamondbacks vs Dodgers picks.

Diamondbacks vs Dodgers Odds

The Dodgers are a -145 moneyline favorite, while the Diamondbacks come back at +120 at MLB betting sites.

Considering these two are in the same division, they meet a lot. LA and Arizona had a four-game set earlier this month, both winning two games apiece. The Dodgers were 7-6 against the Diamondbacks in 2024.

Diamondbacks vs Dodgers Analysis

The Diamondbacks play in one of the most difficult divisions in baseball, which is always going to make it a battle to make the playoffs as the NL West winners. But, things are still close at the moment, with Arizona only four games back of first place. Torey Lovullo’s club is 25-22 and has gone 6-4 in their last 10 contests. The D-backs just took two out of three against the lowly Rockies, outscoring them 9-0 in the two victories.

Arizona is flourishing offensively, ranking fifth in runs scored, eighth in hits, and seventh in average. Their biggest issue is pitching, sitting 24th with a poor 4.81 ERA. But, one of their better starters takes the hill on Monday in Brandon Pfaadt. He’s 6-3 so far with a 3.73 ERA. The righty was dominant against the Dodgers on May 8, tossing 6.1 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just four hits in the process.

The Dodgers improved in the offseason after winning the World Series, and although they’ve dealt with some injury problems so far, Los Angeles is still playing like a contender. Dave Roberts’ group is 29-18 and has the best offense in the Majors, ranking first in runs ,hits, average, slugging, and OPS. Shohei Ohtani has already smacked 16 home runs to go along with a .305 average, while Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez are hitting well over .300 as well. Hyeoseong Kim is also batting .452 since getting called up to the show.

Numerous arms are on the IL, including Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell. That’s hurt the Dodgers staff, who have an ERA over four. Outside of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, no one in this rotation has been consistent. It will be Landon Knack on the bump against Arizona, who has a 5.89 ERA in four starts. Clayton Kershaw just made his season debut, but he was lit up for five earned by the Angels. LA needs the healthy arms they have to be more effective while these main guys are on the shelf.

Diamondbacks vs Dodgers Picks

Pfaadt has enjoyed himself against the Dodgers at times, and so has Knack. The Diamondbacks are hitting just .108 versus the right-hander. Los Angeles is coming off a surprising sweep against an Angels team that they typically beat, and the hosts are also 17-7 at Dodger Stadium. I expect them to respond and get back in the win column here. Take the LA moneyline.
