National League West action takes center stage on Monday, July 7, as the Arizona Diamondbacks visit the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:40 PM ET. Arizona continues to struggle and just lost two of three to the Kansas City Royals over the weekend, further solidifying their case of being a seller at the MLB trade deadline. As for the Padres, they’ve been a mixed bag lately and most recently faced the Texas Rangers. Read below for the Diamondbacks vs Padres betting picks.

Diamondbacks vs Padres Odds

The Padres head into the series opener as a -125 favorite for the series opener. The Diamondbacks return as a +105 underdog at MLB betting sites.

This will be the fourth meeting of the campaign between these two NL West rivals. Arizona won two out of three in their last matchup with the Padres.

Diamondbacks vs Padres Analysis

It’s been a rather miserable campaign for Arizona, which was only in the World Series two years ago. While they insist that making the postseason remains the priority, the Diamondbacks will need quite the turnaround. They’re 11.5 games out of first place in the division. However, Torey Lovullo’s group is only four games back in the NL Wild Card race, so not all is lost quite yet. However, they already lost their ace Corbin Burnes to season-ending Tommy John surgery and the rest of their staff has struggled. Trade rumors are swirling around several players on the roster, including Merrill Kelly, Zac Gallen, and slugger Eugenio Suarez.

It’s Gallen who will be on the hill in Monday’s series opener. While the righty has shown elite stuff in the past, it’s been non-existent in 2025. He’s gone 6-9 with a brutal 5.45 ERA in 18 starts. Gallen has allowed 20 home runs in just 18 starts, with opponents hitting .249. He was lit up the last time he faced the Padres, surrendering four earned runs in 6.1 innings of work. Gallen’s ERA is slightly better on the road though sitting at 5.21.

The Padres have one of the most talented rosters in baseball and can never be counted out when October rolls around. However, offense hasn’t exactly been a bright spot for San Diego so far this year. They rank around 20th in numerous offensive categories, including runs scored and team batting average. Thankfully, the Padres’ staff has held it down, compiling a 3.69 ERA. That’s eighth-best in the Majors.

Nick Pivetta, one of their top starters, was supposed to take the bump on Monday but his start was pushed back as Yu Darvish was activated from the IL. The Japanese righty will make his season debut here after missing the entire campaign thus far due to injury. Darvish has nasty stuff, but he hasn’t pitched in awhile and will likely be on a pitch limit in his return. He posted a 3.31 ERA last season in 17 starts before the injury.

Diamondbacks vs Padres Picks

Gallen is getting lit up on a consistent basis and the Padres do swing it well against him, batting .248 across 137 at-bats. Nearly everyone in this San Diego lineup is familiar with the Diamondbacks starter. I’ll take the Padres to win this one and add to Gallen’s misery.
