The Freeway Series is in full force on Monday, August 11, as the Los Angeles Dodgers head to Orange County to visit the Los Angeles Angels. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:38 p.m. EDT at Angel Stadium. The Dodgers just had a successful weekend against the American League’s best team, taking two out of three from the Toronto Blue Jays. As for Mike Trout and Co., they dropped two of three to AJ Hinch’s Detroit Tigers. Read below for the Dodgers vs Angels betting picks.

Dodgers vs Angels Odds

The Dodgers head into the opener as a -185 road favorite. The Angels return as a +150 underdog at MLB sportsbooks.

Surprisingly, the Angels have actually won four in a row against their Southern California rivals.

Dodgers vs Angels Analysis

This past weekend’s series at Dodger Stadium was seen as a potential World Series preview, with the Jays coming in red hot to face the defending champions. Los Angeles had no issues stepping up and delivering, winning Games 1 and 2 before dropping a nail-biter on Sunday by a score of 5-4. LA’s pitching gave up just two runs through the first two contests while the offense scored 14 runs. The Dodgers impressed, managing to shut down one of the best lineups in baseball.

Manager Dave Roberts will be feeling confident for Monday’s opener in Orange County as he sends Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the mound. The Japanese right-hander is enjoying a dominant campaign, going 10-7 with a 2.51 ERA in 22 starts. He has struck out 139 in 122 innings while walking only 39 batters. Yamamoto has never faced the Angels, but his ERA is even better on the road at 1.63. The Angels have their work cut out for them.

There was a point this year when LA looked like a potential AL Wild Card team, but that ship has sailed. The Angels have fallen back to earth, sitting six games below .500 with a 56-62 record, putting them in fourth place in the American League West. The Halos are just 3-7 in their last 10 contests and have lost four of their last five. This series with the Dodgers is at home, but they head back on the road shortly after to face the Athletics in Sacramento.

Jose Soriano is on the hill in the series opener. He has been one of the Angels’ more consistent arms, pitching to a 7-9 record and 4.01 ERA in 24 appearances. Walks have been an issue at times, as he has issued 61 free passes in 137 innings. Soriano was lit up last time out, allowing seven earned runs to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Dodgers vs. Angels picks

I have plenty of confidence in the Dodgers when Yamamoto is pitching, and it’s hard to ignore just how good he has been on the road. I’ll take the visitors to break this four-game skid against the Angels.
