The New York Yankees return home Monday, Aug. 11, to open a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT. The Bronx Bombers dropped two of three to the Houston Astros over the weekend and will be eager to bounce back in front of their home fans. The Twins, meanwhile, are coming off a series win over the Kansas City Royals and will look to keep momentum going in the Bronx.

The Twins enter this series with an impressive two wins in three against Kansas City but still face an uphill climb in the playoff race. Minnesota is fourth in the American League Central at 56-61, 11.5 games out of first place. The Wild Card is also a challenge — they trail the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners by 5.5 games for the top two spots. A series win against the Yankees could help close the gap and build confidence for the final stretch.

Zebby Matthews, 25, takes the mound for Minnesota in the opener. The rookie right-hander is 3-3 with a 5.17 ERA through eight starts. Matthews is coming off one of his best outings, throwing five innings of one-run baseball against the Detroit Tigers with six strikeouts. His 2.88 ERA at home this season has been a major bright spot for New York’s rotation.
