The wild 2025 NBA playoffs finally wrapped up with the Oklahoma City Thunder taking the title in seven games. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won Finals MVP after also taking home the NBA MVP trophy earlier this season as well. But who will follow SGA and win the big one in 2026?

SGA was the second-favorite to win it last year around this time, with Nikola Jokic just a smidge ahead of him. Unsurprisingly, it’s those two leading the way again. And with so many top contenders for the award suffering injuries during this postseason that will keep them out for most of next year, it could be the same two-horse race again… Or will it?

Check out the early NBA betting odds for 2026 NBA MVP, as well as our breakdown of those favorites and a few fun long shot options!

Highlights

  • Nikola Jokic and SGA are once again the two favorites for the award
  • Luka, Giannis, and Anthony Edwards round out the top five
  • The Lakers are the only team with two players in the top 17 on this odds boards

The Favorites

Nikola Jokic (+210): We’re not sure how to check archived odds that far back, but there’s a good chance that this is the fourth straight year Nikola Jokic opens up as the favorite to win NBA MVP. He’s got a good chance every year as long as he’s healthy. He was arguably robbed last year, so he could be back in the mix in 2026. Not at the odds betting apps are giving us right now, however. Hopefully they will lengthen a bit before we need to pull the trigger.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+250): SGA had an all-time season this past year. And for that reason, we don’t think he is a good bet in this situation. The Thunder should be great again, but they’d have to win 70 games and he’d have to average 35 a night for them to give it to him again after awarding him over the insane statistical season of the Joker last year. Pass on this one.

Luka Doncic (+750): Luka Doncic is around here nearly every summer in the MVP odds, but he’s never been able to put together a full season to get over the hump. We doubt he’ll do it this year with LeBron James still in town and a Lakers team in major flux. If he wasn’t in L.A., he probably wouldn’t be this high.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (+850): Considering we don’t even know for sure where the Greek Freak is going to be playing next season, this one’s tough to bet on right now. The tempting thing is, depending on where he lands, his odds could get way shorter, so it actually might be worth taking a speculative chance on Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Long Shot Value Bets

  • Victor Wembanyama (+1,400): The team they have built around this kid is seemingly perfect for him to shine. Losing Pop from the sideline does hurt a little, but if the Spurs are a top four seed in the tough West, Wembanyama will be a great shout. This is by far our favorite bet on the board considering value vs. potential.
  • Cade Cunningham (+4,000): The Pistons took a major step last year, and so did Cade Cunningham. He produces the type of consistent all-around stats that MVP voters love, and with all the injuries in the East, it’s wide open for the taking.
  • Donovan Mitchell (+5,000): Donovan Mitchell is another guy that could benefit from the dearth of stars in the East next year. The Cavaliers won an insane amount of games last season, but Spida didn’t get any love. Perhaps some signature performances this season paired with 60+ wins could get him in the room.
  • Paolo Banchero (+8,000): Last but not least, Paolo Banchero could be set for a huge breakout. He’s already an All-Star, so maybe not a breakout, but he has MVP-type usage, and the Magic are clearly going for broke here with the Desmond Bane deal. An +8,000 odds dart throw in June? Why not?
