Los Angeles Rams vs Los Angeles Chargers Best Odds

Odds courtesy of Bet365, correct at time of writing and subject to change.

Six games into the season, the Chargers have been, by far, the most disappointing team this season winless and even with Justin Herbert a team that ranks dead last in the league in scoring. The Rams had lost two in a row before a win in their last game and Matthew Stafford and company look back to get the .500 record with a win over the Bolts this Sunday. The one thing the Chargers have going for them is that they are coming off a bye.

Los Angeles Rams vs Los Angeles Chargers Best Bet

Los Angeles Rams -6.5: -114

My call here is the Rams to cover at home. The Rams  just put up 35 points on the road against the Raiders, while the Chargers have issues on both sides of the ball and rank dead last in scoring. A less than a  touchdown-plus spread against an offence like that is the number I want to back.

Los Angeles Rams vs Los Angeles Chargers Analysis

The Rams side

Matthew Stafford became the franchise's all-time leader in passing touchdowns during Sunday's 35-21 win over the Raiders, and the Rams have scored 24 points or more in four of their last five outings, averaging 24.3 ppg on the season. Puka Nacua is a top flight WR and remains the clear top target on every pass play. The Rams defence has had its rough patches, allowing 22.7 ppg, but it should be more than enough against a Chargers’ offence averaging only 15 ppg.

The Chargers side

Justin Herbert has started all six games this season and returns from the bye, but his offence has topped 20 points only once and is averaging a league low 15 ppg, with a Week 6 trip to Kansas City producing just six points, the team's low point of the season. Facing a Rams defence allowing 22.7 ppg, I don't see enough here for the Chargers to keep this one within single digits for a Bolts’ team in disarray.

Los Angeles Rams vs Los Angeles Chargers Prediction

The market has Los Angeles as a 72% favourite once the vig is stripped from the Bet365 moneyline, and my own number lands close to that at 74%, so the price on the moneyline looks about right. The number I find more interesting is the total: at 44.5 to 45, it looks generous for a Chargers offence that has not scored more than 23 points in a single game all season, and that is the stronger angle this Sunday. Take the Rams here against a Chargers’ team that cannot put points on the board.

My Exact Score Prediction: Los Angeles Rams 27–13 Los Angeles Chargers

I'm backing a 27-13 final. The Rams have reached at least 24 points in four of their last five games, and a Chargers defence that has allowed at least 22 points in every game this season gives Stafford's offence plenty of room to get it done, like last week. The Chargers, meanwhile, have topped 20 points only once all year, which caps their scoring ceiling against a Rams defence that has issues but has talent on that side of the ball. The 27-13  score clears the Rams' -6.5 spread and lands the total at 40, under the posted 44.5 line.
