Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Atlanta Falcons: NFL Predictions, Odds & Picks | Week 8

Tampa Bay heads into Sunday winning two of their last three games and are coming off a 43-14 beatdown on the Carolina Panthers. The Falcons had lost two in a row but are coming off a 29-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers handing them their first loss of the season. The latest NFL prediction odds make the Buccaneers 2.5-point favourites at Raymond James Stadium with the Falcons banged up front on defence.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -2.5: -105

My call is Tampa Bay -2.5. The Buccaneers have scored 43 and 24 points in the two wins in their last three games and have Baker Mayfield back. The Bucs have confidence but so does Atlanta after the big win over San Fran in their last game. The spread has moved only half a point since the Carolina blowout, and I think the market is underpricing how many regulars up front on defence Atlanta is missing this week.

The Tampa Bay side

Tampa Bay's offence has found its footing in two of the last three games and have their leader back under center. Last week in Mayfield’s first game back in a  a rout of Carolina he only attempted 11 passes, as the Bucks crushed it on the ground rushing for 258 yards. Bucky Irving rushed for over 100 yards in the last game and facing a banged up Atlanta front line may go big again. They face a Falcons’ team that has given up an average of 27 ppg over their last three games. 

The Atlanta side

Atlanta enters off a 29-20 home win over San Francisco, to snap a two-game skid. Michael Penix Jr. has been up and down on the season but Bijan Robinson has been a beast and leads the league in rushing yards. Atlanta is 3-4 and sits second in the NFC South, and three of its four losses have come by one score or in overtime, a sign this group can hang in a close game even on the road. Still, facing a hot Bucs team on the road they will be tested.

The de-vigged market has Tampa Bay at 56% to win outright, and I put it a little higher at 60% given Atlanta's absences up front. That four-point gap is enough to call it a real edge rather than market noise, and it's the same read behind my spread pick for taking the Bucs to win and cover the short spread in the Sunshine State. 

I'm backing Tampa Bay to win 27-20. The Buccaneers' offensive line cleared room all game against Carolina, and I expect a similar push against a Falcons team thin up front on D. . Atlanta's defence has allowed at least 20 points in five of its seven games this season, so points should come for both sides. That total clears the 45.5 line by a point and a half, in line with my Over lean and the margin covers Tampa Bay's -2.5 spread.
