Head-to-head info
There hasn’t been much separating these two sides in recent memory, playing to back-to-back draws. Before that, Arsenal won two straight against their rivals, which ended an eight-game winning run for Man City versus the Gunners. This will be another very entertaining affair with lots at stake.
Arsenal chasing Liverpool
While Liverpool is six points clear of Arsenal with a game in hand, the Gunners are probably the most realistic option to actually catch the Reds in the title race, but that in itself won’t be easy, either. Mikel Arteta’s side has collected 47 points from 23 games, going 13-8-2. Arsenal has bagged 44 goals while conceding just 21 – the league-low alongside Liverpool. They’ve been very consistent this season.
As previously mentioned, the Gunners are flying into the Round of 16 in Europe and will certainly be focused on making it as far as they can in the Champions League. But, that doesn’t mean Arsenal isn’t trying to finally win a Premier League trophy after a few years of coming up short. The victory over Wolves wasn’t an easy one but Ricardo Calafiori came to the rescue late in the second half with a beautiful goal to seal the three points for his side.
Arteta’s group is now unbeaten in five matches across all competitions, also beating Girona mid-week in the Champions League. Even though Man City has struggled over the last couple of months, Arsenal is smart enough to not take the title holders for granted, especially because they’ve started to find their form again. The hosts have +100 odds at Sports Interaction.
Man City back on track
The Sky Blues were in the midst of their worst spell under Pep Guardiola throughout November and December, losing eight games across those two months. However, City is back on track now and it couldn’t come at a better time. Aside from a deflating 4-2 defeat to PSG last week, the club has won six of their last eight games. A massive 3-1 victory over Club Brugge on Wednesday sealed their spot in the UCL playoffs.
Just days prior, City played host to Chelsea at the Etihad and completely dominated a very strong side. While Noni Madueke opened the scoring early, Josko Gvardiol equalized before halftime. Erling Haaland and Phil Foden then sealed the victory in the second period with goals of their own. It was a statement victory for City and they’re now in fourth place in the Premier League standings.
Seeing Haaland get back on the scoresheet was also a positive sign because he has been struggling in front of goal, which is a rare occurrence. City will need him to be at his best against Arsenal, who will be doing everything in their power to slow down the big Norwegian striker. The visitors are now winless in their previous three meetings with the Gunners, so a victory is definitely much-needed here, despite sitting as a slim underdog at soccer betting sportsbooks.
