We’re getting two title fights at UFC 315 in Montreal—but we’re also getting a whole lot more. Before the belts go on the line in the main and co-main events, there are three scraps to be fought on the main card.

All three feature ranked fighters, and all three feature some combination of exciting finishing power and nostalgic legends. Let’s dive into our breakdowns and best bets for the first three bouts on the UFC 315 main card on Saturday night in Quebec.

Note: None of our best bets feature odds shorter than -200.

Highlights

  • The fact that Jose Aldo’s couldn’t make 135-lbs makes his favorite odds questionable
  • Natalia Silva is a -250 odds favorite despite having no top-5 wins on her resume
  • Benoit Saint-Denis won via submission in 9 of his 13 pro MMA victories

No. 11 Jose Aldo vs. No. 15 Aiemann Zahabi Featherweight Bout Betting Odds

FighterMoneylineWin by DecisionWin by KO/TKO/DQWin by SubmissionRoundsTo Go the Distance
Jose Aldo-188-110+500+1,800O2.5 (-425)Yes (-340)
Aiemann Zahabi+162+225+800+2,000U2.5 (+290)No (+240)

While both of these guys are ranked in the bantamweight division, Jose Aldo’s (32-9) inability to make it back down to 135 forced the UFC to move this one up to featherweight at 145. Needless to say, Aiemann Zahabi (12-2) obliged. Aldo looked pretty rough on the scale, but Zahabi is still only one year younger than the former champion.

This will be a battle on the feet, there’s no doubt about that. Unless one of these guys had some crazy revelation in camp, they’re not going to become takedown artists all of sudden. That said, Aldo is definitely the better striker, but that image at the weigh-in does weigh heavily on our minds here. Not to mention his -188 odds feel a little bit too chalky considering.

Zahabi—a Canadian from Quebec related to the man who was the inspiration for John Wick (Firas Zahabi)—feels like the value pick here at home considering the odds we’re getting from betting apps. He’s not as experienced as Aldo, obviously. But he also has way less tread on his tires, he’s riding a five-fight win streak, and he’s coming off a pretty impressive unanimous decision over Pedro Munhoz, who is no slouch.

Best Bet: Aiemann Zahabi Moneyline (+162)

No. 1 Alexa Grasso vs. No. 5 Natalia Silva Women’s Flyweight Bout Betting Odds

FighterMoneylineWin by DecisionWin by KO/TKO/DQWin by SubmissionRoundsTo Go the Distance
Alexa Grasso+200+275+1,400+1,400O2.5 (-500)Yes (-425)
Natalia Silva-250-150+750+1,000U2.5 (+330)No (+290)

Alexa Grasso (16-4-1) finally gets to fight someone other than Valentina Shevchenko. Though she gave an excellent account of herself in that trilogy, that must be a relief. Though Natalia Silva (18-5-1) is not to be overlooked after a 6-0 start to her UFC career. However, it feels like she’ll have to go against the grain and win this one on the mat considering Grasso’s talent on the feet.

But Silva hasn’t had a takedown in the UFC yet, so we’re not sure she’ll be able to take advantage of the Mexican’s most obvious weakness: her takedown defense. Grasso, still just 31 (Silva is 28), coming in as a +200 odds underdog against a fighter that has no top five wins under her belt is simply something we could not ignore. We’re going with the underdog and former champ here, as strange as it is to put those words together.

Best Bet: Alexa Grasso Moneyline (+200)

No. 13 Benoit Saint-Denis vs. Kyle Prepolec Lightweight Bout Betting Odds

FighterMoneylineWin by DecisionWin by KO/TKO/DQWin by SubmissionRoundsTo Go the Distance
Benoit Saint-Denis-1,000+650+140+105O1.5 (+140)Yes (+500)
Kyle Prepolec+600+1,600+1,200+2,500U1.5 (-190)No (-850)

Benoit Saint-Denis (13-2, 1 NC) was on a roll in the UFC until he rocked up to a few serious matchups with Dustin Poirier and Renato Moicano. His refusal to take on No. 7 Mateusz Gamrot in this bout after No. 15 Joel Alvarez backed out with injury, is just another reason why the mystique has really worn off on the Frenchman.

Lucky for him, he’s taking on a journeyman here in Canadian Kyle Prepolec (18-8), who’s just making his return to the division after six years in the minors.

The only question here is whether to bet on Saint-Denis to win via knockout or submission, because his odds to win via finish are at an unbeatable -450. Prepolec has been submitted twice and never knocked out, while Saint-Denis has nine wins via submission compared to knockout. UFC betting sites are still offering Saint-Denis via submission at plus odds, so hop on that.

Best Bet: Benoit Saint-Denis to Win via Submission (+105)/Betway
