My father is a lifelong Vikings fan, and while he didn’t force that life of heartbreak on me - I became a Steelers fan - seeing my team win twice already in my short lifetime before he has seen his team win once has led me to cheer for the Viks just as hard. And it left me with a keen love for an underdog.

Alex Murray’s Writing Philosophy

With yellow journalism and unedited AI content flooding the internet over the last few years, quality, honest, accurate, and earnest writing, especially in the sports media world, is seriously lacking.

Attention spans have taken a massive hit over the last few years, so an important part of Alex’s writing philosophy is not only informing the reader on the topic at hand but entertaining them in doing so. To do this, he often uses fun pop culture references or literary allusions to make more abstract or dense sports topics a little more relatable and/or palatable.

Areas of Expertise

Alex has been writing in the sports and sports betting sectors for over half a decade, and with that experience has evidently come some level of expertise in a few different specific areas. Alex loves a wide variety of sports as well as a wide variety of different types of sports betting.

  • NFL → A lifelong NFL fan and a serious football player until college, Alex has expert-level knowledge of the NFL, its history, and of course, its betting trends.
  • NBA → Whether you want real basketball analysis or betting-related predictions, Alex has you covered.
  • Tips & Strategies → Finding the right bets to make on any given game is as tough as ever with the sheer volume of markets, Alex helps cut through all the gambling noise with his tips and betting strategies.
  • Responsible Gambling → Adding a little action is always fun, but Alex believes and subscribes to the idea that betting should only ever be bonus fun.

North American sports are and always will be my bread and butter, but boy, do those soccer - sorry, football - fans across the pond know how to support their teams. An Arsenal fan since 2018-2019, I attended a game in 2022 and it changed my whole view on sports outside of the North American bubble. We’ve got it good over here, but it’s definitely worth poking your head out every once in a while.

Q&A with Alex Murray

I have been in love with sports since I was a toddler chasing around mini footballs and soccer balls. I was a decent athlete through my high school career, even earning a football scholarship. But upon reaching the college level, I realized I wouldn’t be the next John Lynch, and so pivoted to the next best thing to playing sports: covering them.

My favorite sport to play is basketball, just because it is so accessible and cheap to play.

I am more obsessed with George R.R. Martin’s A Song Of Ice & Fire book universe than anyone you know. Seriously.

If I’m not writing, I’m reading about history, watching documentaries or TV shows, and going out for a cheeky pint with my buddies.

One of the athletes that I admire the most is Muhammad Ali. It doesn’t get any more brave than giving up the prime of your athletic career to take a stand on a social issue as important as the Vietnam War. He continued to be the rare superstar athlete to use their platform for social activism well after his departure from the boxing ring.
