The Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons have been having very similar playoff runs. They both went to Game 7 in Round 1. Both have been dominant at home, but not so much on the road. But something’s going to have to give in this Eastern Conference semifinal, because only one team can advance.

Now, we arrive at Game 5 with the series tied 2-2 and neither team having been able to win a game on the road. If the lower-seeded Cavs want to punch their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals to take on the red hot New York Knicks, they’ll have to buck that trend in Game 5 or Game 7.

Will they be able to do so on Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, or will Cade Cunningham and the boys snap out of it and give themselves a chance to finish this series early? Read on for our betting picks for Game 5 as well as the top NBA betting odds in Canada.

Highlights

  • Cleveland is 6-0 at home and 0-5 on the road during the 2026 postseason
  • Detroit is 5-1 at home and 1-4 on the road in these playoffs
  • The over/under on this game is exactly the same as in Games 3 and 4

Cavaliers vs. Pistons Game 5 Betting Prediction

At some point, this whole “home team wins every game” thing with the Cavaliers is going to have to end, right? Well, no, not technically. But we think it will end here in Game 5. Our opinion going into this series was that the Pistons were the better overall team, but that Cleveland has more talent. They have a higher ceiling. And thanks to their superstar backcourt, they’re starting to scratch at that ceiling.

After James Harden turned back the clock to win Game 3 late for Cleveland, his buddy Donovan Mitchell took the baton in Game 4, putting up 39 of his 43 points in a record-setting second half. Jarrett Allen is still underperforming, but Evan Mobley has looked good in the frontcourt over the last two games, going for 17 and 8 in Game 4 after 13 and 8 in Game 3.

Detroit got a lot of support from the so-called “other guys” as Cade Cunningham’s shooting struggles continued in Game 4. Caris LeVert put up 24 points off the bench and Paul Reed chipped in another 15. That’s not going to happen again, and the rest of Detroit’s starting lineup just doesn’t have the offensive initiative they need to compete with the star power of Cleveland.

Cleveland has found a way to beat this Pistons team, and the only thing we think is standing in their way now is the streaky shooting of Beardo and Spida. On Wednesday night, we’re betting on them to stay hot.
