The Favorite: Jeremiyah Love, RB, Arizona Cardinals (+250)

Most would have expected Fernando Mendoza to be the favorite–but they’d be wrong. In fact, only five No. 1 picks have ever won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. It makes sense when you think about it: number one selections usually go to a team that is beyond god-awful. You don’t have to make the playoffs to win this award, but your team does have to be competitive.

The Cardinals aren’t the picture of competitiveness after a three-win season last year, but they were competitive in a lot of those games, seven of which were losses of four points or less. Jacoby Brissett is a good solid NFL QB, and the defense has improved marginally. They’re in the tough NFC West, but looking at their 2026 opponents, they look like they’ve got at least six or seven wins in them.

That would be more than enough to support Jeremiyah Love’s candidacy. And notice we have arrived here at the third and final paragraph of this analysis, and that’s the first time we’ve mentioned Love. That’s because there’s really not much to say. He’s a dream running back prospect who is going to vault ahead of Tyler Allgeier and James Conner in the blink of an eye. He might be the best player on this Cardinals team in 2026, so if they win some games, this is a great bet.

Saquon Barkley won in 2018 with just five team wins, Alvin Kamara won the year before with 11, Todd Gurley had just seven in 2015, and Eddie Lacy won with just 8 in 2013. Arizona doesn’t need to do much to legitimize Love. And we already know he’s legit individually.

The Underdog: Fernando Mendoza, QB, Las Vegas Raiders (+400)

Mendoza went undefeated and won the Heisman and Natty last year and went No. 1 overall. Still not enough to be the favorite here. And that’s actually fair. The Raiders knew all offseason they had the top pick and were more than likely to take Mendoza. And they still went out and got Kirk Cousins. He’s still a decent starter, and we expect him to be the guy in Week 1.

That means this all depends on how long it takes for Mendoza to get into the game. Generally, a QB that wins OROY starts from Week 1. The lowest number of starts for an OROY-winning QB is 12 in 1970 by Dennis Shaw. And that’s when there were only 14 games in a season. The next-lowest were Vince Young and Ben Roethlisberger in 2006 and 2004, respectively, with 13 apiece. Vince Young went 8-5 and Roethlisberger went 13-0. The Raiders aren’t going to do that.

Apart from Love, there are two long shots we would consider, but they both come with a catch. Philly is obviously excited about WR Makai Lemon, and that means if they trade A.J. Brown, he's going to get a lot of looks. But if Brown is not traded, he’s got no chance. He’s offering +1,000 odds.

The Steelers also surprised everyone by taking Penn State QB Drew Allar in the third round. The guy is raw as all heck, but if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t sign or signs and gets hurt, Allar is likely in line for a lot of opportunities with a roster that is built to win now at huge +4,000 odds.
